Eyelid surgery is also called blepharoplasty. It is a surgical procedure that provides the recovery of sagging tissues and weak muscles around the eyes. It occurs due to age or environmental influences.

Anesthesia is applied around the eyes before the procedure. If the upper eyelid is to be treated, an incision is made from the fold lines on the lid, and in the lower eyelid, from the bottom of the eyelashes.
Then, the subcutaneous fat and muscle tissue, as well as the skin tissue are treated. The operation is completed by removing the excess.

There are 2 types of eyelid aesthetics, which are shaped according to the problems around the eyes. They are called lower and upper blepharoplasty.

Upper blepharoplasty is applied to recover the sagging that occurs in the upper eyelid and causes problems up to the closure of the eye.

Lower blepharoplasty is applied to remove sagging and bags on the lower eyelid.

When deemed necessary, two types of eyelid aesthetics can be applied within the same operation.

The main cause of sagging around the eyes is aging. Aging skin tissues begin to loosen and become abundant over time. Since the skin of the lower and upper eyelids is quite thin, it loses its elasticity much faster and sags downwards with the effect of gravity.

For a healthy recovery after the procedure, dressings should be applied regularly to the stitches. It is important to avoid making facial expressions for a while during the recovery period after the operation. You should avoid tiring the eyes too much and use the eye drops or ointment given by your doctor.

Protecting the eye area from the sun is important both to prevent squinting and to be protected from the harmful effects of sun rays. For this reason, sunglasses should be used.

Post-operative effects such as swelling and bruising decrease and disappear over time. First of all, the swellings, which remain prominent in the first period, begin to disappear within 3 days. This requires at least 48 hours. During this time, a cold compress can be applied. It takes a period of 7-10 days for the bruises to pass. During this period, efforts are made not to make facial expressions, to protect the face from the sun, and not to neglect the dressings.

You can start applying make-up after a 10-day recovery period when all edema, swelling and bruises are gone. Wearing makeup before this time may increase the risk of infection.

Since the incision is opened on the eyelid during the procedure and it is applied in this way, there are suture marks. However, these scars are not clearly visible because they are made from the natural fold mark on the upper eyelid and from the bottom of the eyelash on the lower eyelid.

The severity of sagging on the eyelid increases after the age of 40. For this reason, the best time for the operation is considered to be over the age of 40. When the procedure is applied to the sagging seen at earlier ages, a repeat operation may be required in the future. For better results, it should be applied after the age of 40.
